Bittersweet apple harvest

Captain Kidd harvest 2015Today I picked my Captain Kidd apples, and what a bounty! The Captain is one of my top trees – a must have for its taste, practical size (unlike, for example, the gargantuan Monty), trouble free existence and reliable harvest. After a day of picking and sorting apples and pears – the orchard looks really bare. Captain Kidd (pictured), Lobo and Mother are all in and join the Beurre Bosc, Doyenne du Comice and Cleargeau pears awaiting cleaning and storing. The flip side to the glory of the bounty is no more fruits hanging on the trees! I will miss them, but the seasons must turn. An empty orchard and full pantry mean but one thing – winter is on her way.
